Dehydration is one of the most common causes of constipation because the colon is where most of your water absorption takes place and the majority of people in the world don’t drink enough water. A good start to restoring regular bowel movements would be to increase your water intake to at least 50% of your body weight in ounces. So a 200lb person would need to drink 100 ounces daily.


Also, increase your intake of watery fruits like watermelon, melons, and cantaloupes. Papayas are also very beneficial for increasing movement in the colon. Hydrating properly along with an organic plant based diet with absolutely no processed or packaged food should increase your daily bowel movements to a normal amount. Diet, exercise, and hydration are all important factors, but you can forget about the nervous system. All of my patients with bowel issues had nerve interference occurring in the digestive system which causes decrease motility (movement). This compromised nerve supply can be from direct interference such as a structural problem with the spine or it can be indirect interference because of a problem with the autonomic nervous system which responds to any chemical, physical and emotional form of stress.
